MacInnes Bros Ltd (MIB) were employed as the main subcontractor on behalf of KIER Construction Ltd and completed the renovation of Vatersay Community Hall. The scope of works at Vatersay Hall included alterations to the existing building as well as an extension to provide café facilities with an outdoor decking area. The works also included a complete new electrical installation, heating installation and drainage and external works.
During this contract, MIB liaised well with the local community group who run Vatersay Hall by keeping them regularly updated on the progress of the works, invited group members to the monthly progress meetings, invited them to attend site visits and listened to their input in what facilities/design they required whilst fitting the kitchen and café facilities.
MIB have carried out many works on Vatersay over the last 25 years so it was vitally important to us to maintain good relationships with members of the local community and to cause as little disturbance as possible. In such a small community we respect the members of the public and recognise the importance of mutual trust and regard when carrying out works. Effective preplanning was paramount to ensure a minimum of disruption to the local community. Addressing potential issues in advance helped with the smooth running of the works and ensured continuity.
Bearing in mind that Vatersay hall is a community hall, we carried out a Value Engineering exercise at tender stage in order to offer the Client less expensive options for both electrical and ventilation services in an attempt to reduce the maintenance and running fees that the hall association would have to fund.
This contract was governed by the NEC Option A conditions under which MacInnes Bros were fully aware of the ethos of contractor/client cooperation and open lines of communication: we believe that we managed to encompass these elements into the day to day running of the contract, ensuring a positive outcome on all occasions.
This project was completed on budget and ahead of programme.
