Between the years of 2011 and 2014, MacInnes Bros Ltd were employed as the main subcontractor to FMP Ltd who were awarded the main contract for the construction of 6 new Primary Schools throughout the Western Isles on behalf of CNES. The new schools on Uist were Balivanich Primary School and Daliburgh Primary School.
The main scope of works were demolition, excavation works, blockwork and roughcast, drainage and hard landscaping works.
Both schools were constructed with a close relationship with the existing school staff and pupils. The sentimental connection with the existing schools was greatly respected and understood by MIB and school pupils and staff were able to arrange site visits to the new schools throughout the whole construction so they could see the progression of their new school and workplace.
During construction MacInnes Bros were able to provide employment opportunities for local people: plant operators, HGV drivers, labourers and a site supervisor many of whom are still in our employment on other contracts. In addition to sourcing staff locally, we actively sought to source materials from local suppliers. Aggregate and rock was sourced locally to ensure that the benefit of these orders were channeled to the local community rather than placing the orders with off island suppliers who had offered lower prices.
The two contracts were governed by the NEC Option A conditions and were completed on budget and on programme.
